This week was a lovely taper week, only a few training sessions as I had entered the Challenge Half distance in Galway on Sunday 26th June. We got to Galway on Friday as we wanted to see Chrissie Wellingon's Q&A session. She is an amazing athlete and it was fascinating to hear her speak.
This was the first time I have done a race with a split transition and I have to say it wasn't easy running around between different transition areas, we were glad we had an extra day to get set up.
West of Ireland weather can be unpredictable, and it lived up to its reputation on race day, wind and driving rain most of the day meant the swim was extremely choppy and the bike was really tough. Run was ok, but the legs were suffering at that stage because of the bike. I was so cold and wet at the end so was very pleased our hotel was near the finish line.
My favourite Coeur kit performed brilliantly as usual on the day. I ended up running in my Lakota cycle top as it was just too cold and wet to take it off. It was all great training, if conditions are bad in Sweden on race day at least I have this race to look back on and think I did it anyway!
A good night out in Galway afterwards, and all was good again!
