Week 1 Ironman Training 4th - 10th January 2016 - The Beginning

Happy New Year!  New Year, new training plan underway!  In my infinite wisdom, I decided to enter Ironman Kalmar 2016.  I was on a bit of a high just before our first half ironman in Zell am see Austria last August and spurred on by the excitement of a few other members of our Tri Club entering Kalmar, I sat by my screen as 2016 was released and pressed the button.

The rest of 2015 was spent knowing somewhere in the back of my mind that it was coming up, but not worrying about it because it was soooo far away.  Fast forward to January 2016, uh oh, it's this year! 

I heard good reports on Don Fink's book Be Iron Fit and decided to follow his 30 week competitive plan.  I want to do more than the just finish plan so I have a little extra in the tank in case of something unexpected happening, I looked at the intermediate plan, but decided to try the competitive plan as I should be able to make the hours work!

Week 1 training has gone really well, it was so nice to be back at it after a usual Christmas and New Year eating and drinking far too much. 

The week has gone like this:

Monday: Swim (300m warm up, 8x50m drills, 12x100m with 20 secs rest between), 8x50m drills, 200m cool down), Run (30 mins zone 2)

TuesdayBike (1hr turbo zone 2)

Wednesday: Brick Session (30 mins turbo zone 2, 15 mins run zone 2)

Thursday: Run (30 mins zone 2)

Friday: Swim (300m warm up, 8x50m drills, 3x125m with 20 secs rest, 2x175m with 30 secs rest, 3x125m with 20 secs rest, 8x50m drills, 200m cool down), Bike (30 mins turbo zone 1 100+ RPM)

Saturday: Run (45 mins zone 1 to 2)

Sunday: Rest

Total 6 hours training
